KRWellsGolf LLC, doing business as Bad Golf ("Bad Golf," "we," "us," or "our") operates the Bad Golf mobile application and web app (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We've tried to write it in plain English. If anything is unclear, contact us at support@officialbadgolf.com.
Summary (the short version)
- You need an account. Bad Golf uses email and password, Sign in with Google, or Sign in with Apple. There is no SMS login.
- We collect what the app needs to keep score — your name, your handicap, your rounds, and the courses you play.
- Location is used while you're playing, for the GPS rangefinder and shot tracking. It is used to draw distances, not to build a profile of where you go.
- We do not process payments. The Service holds no funds, has no payment feature, and contains no connection to any payment provider. The one-tap payment buttons that earlier versions offered have been removed.
- We don't use advertising trackers, advertising identifiers, or third-party marketing SDKs. We don't sell your information.
- Other players see less about you than you might think. Your phone number and email address are not readable by other users.
- You can delete your account and its data from inside the app, at any time.
1. Information we collect
Information you provide
- Account information — the email address you sign up with, or the account identifier supplied by Google or Apple if you use those. If you use Apple's Hide My Email, we receive Apple's relay address, not your real one. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider and are never visible to us.
- Profile information — your display name, an optional profile photo, an optional phone number, an optional home course, and an optional gender setting used to apply the correct course rating and slope for handicap purposes.
- Handicap information — your handicap index, the handicap you typed at sign-up (marked TEMP until real rounds replace it), and the differentials computed from your round history.
- Golf data — hole-by-hole scores, putts, greens in regulation, fairways hit, penalty strokes, sand saves, the games and formats you selected, and the units associated with them.
- Course information — course names, pars, stroke indexes, tee names, ratings, slopes, yardages, and GPS mapping data. Course data is a shared, collaborative library.
- Round, tournament and league data — round codes, group and cart assignments, tournament rosters, league rosters, fixtures, standings and season records.
- Social content — friend requests and friendships, posts, replies and reactions on the crew message board, and highlights generated from your rounds.
- Feedback — anything you submit through "✍️ Share feedback" or the contact form, including any screenshots you choose to attach.
- Shot data — tracked shot distances and the club associated with them, and the club distances you configure in My Clubs.
Information collected automatically
- Location — see Section 2.
- Round codes — a short word-and-number identifier (for example, "EAGLE42") used to sync a round between phones.
- Push notification tokens — a device identifier issued by Apple or Google so we can deliver notifications you've enabled.
- Timestamps and sync state — when rounds were created, updated or finished, and which round your device last had open so the app can resume.
- Basic app telemetry — the app build you are running, your platform (iOS, Android or web) and a last-seen timestamp. This is used to tell you when an update is available, to size support decisions, and to compute aggregate adoption and retention numbers. It is not sold or shared.
2. Location
Bad Golf requests location access so the GPS rangefinder can work. When you grant it:
- Your device's location is used to compute distances to the front, middle and back of the green, to the fairway target, and to any point you drag the target marker to.
- It is used to find nearby courses when you open the course picker.
- If you turn on the drive-distance estimate, your position at address and after the shot is used to estimate how far you hit it, and that estimate is saved to your shot log.
- If you start a round with "Alert friends" on, or share your live round, your approximate position during that round can be visible to the players and spectators in it.
Location is used while you are using the app. We do not build advertising profiles from it, we do not sell it, and we do not share it with data brokers. If you decline location access, scoring, statistics and every non-GPS feature still work.
3. Apple Watch and Apple Health
If you use the Apple Watch app, the watch starts a golf workout session while a round is live so watchOS keeps the app awake and the GPS warm. This requires Health permission on first use.
- The workout is written to Apple Health on your own device, which is why the round also appears in Apple Fitness.
- We do not read your health data, and no health information is transmitted to us.
- If you decline Health access, everything still works — the GPS just cold-starts on each wrist raise.
4. Camera, photos, and microphone
- Photos — used only when you choose to set a profile photo or attach a screenshot to feedback. We access the image you pick, not your photo library.
- Microphone / speech — the "🎤 Say the scores" feature uses your device's own speech recognition to turn what you say into scores. Where your device or keyboard performs that recognition through Apple's or Google's system services, that audio is handled by them under their own privacy policies. Bad Golf does not record, store or transmit audio.
5. What we do NOT collect
- We do not collect payment information. The Service processes no payments, holds no funds, and has no payment feature or payment-provider connection of any kind.
- We do not collect government-issued identifiers, financial account numbers, or precise health information.
- We do not use advertising identifiers (IDFA, AAID) or any cross-app tracking.
- We do not use third-party analytics or marketing SDKs — no Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Firebase Analytics, or similar.
- We do not access your contacts.
- We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
6. How we use the information
The information you provide is used to:
- Keep score, apply handicaps, and compute standings and unit totals
- Sync a round between the phones in your group during play
- Save your round history, statistics and handicap index
- Show you and your friends leaderboards, highlights and live rounds
- Run tournaments and leagues you are a member of
- Send you the notifications you've enabled
- Answer your support requests and act on your feedback
- Keep the shared course library accurate
- Detect and prevent abuse, spam and unauthorised access
7. What other players can see
Bad Golf is a social app, so some information is shared by design. The boundaries are:
- Anyone with a round code can read and modify that round's data, including the player names and scores in it. Share round codes only with your group.
- Other signed-in users can see your name, avatar and handicap where you appear — a leaderboard, a friend search, a roster, or a round you are both in.
- Your phone number and email address are not readable by other users. A restricted directory exposes only the fields listed above; your full profile row is visible to you alone.
- Anything you post to the crew message board is visible to your accepted friends.
- Administrators can see account information, including email addresses and stored phone numbers, in the user-management tools used to merge duplicate accounts and provide support.
8. Service providers
We use a small number of third parties to run the Service. Each receives only what its function requires.
- Supabase — hosting, database, authentication and file storage. Your account, profile, rounds and uploaded images are stored here.
- Apple — Sign in with Apple, push notifications, and App Store distribution.
- Google — Sign in with Google, push notifications, Google Play distribution, and satellite map tiles.
- Esri / ArcGIS — satellite imagery and address geocoding for the GPS map. Map and geocoding requests include the coordinates or the search text being looked up.
- Open-Meteo and the Iowa Environmental Mesonet — wind and temperature for the course you're playing. These requests include the course's approximate coordinates.
- OpenStreetMap (Nominatim and Overpass) — course lookup and course-data research. Used primarily by administrators maintaining the course library.
- jsDelivr — a content delivery network that serves the map library.
We do not authorise any of these providers to use your information for their own marketing.
9. Data retention and deletion
- You can delete your account from inside the app — Account → Delete account. Your account and data are removed immediately. You can also email support@officialbadgolf.com with the subject "Bad Golf Account Deletion Request" from the address on your account, and we will process it within 30 days.
- What deletion removes: your account and sign-in, your profile and player link, your saved rounds, scores, statistics and handicap history, your game history and final-standing records, and your device push-notification tokens.
- What deletion does not remove: rounds you played with other people remain in their round history, because their scorecards include the round you shared. Those rounds are no longer linked to any account of yours.
- Crew message board threads are deleted automatically 30 days after their last activity.
- Course library data is shared and collaborative, and is retained as part of the library.
- We keep the rest of what you enter for as long as your account exists.
10. Security
Data is transmitted over encrypted connections and stored with our hosting provider under access rules that restrict each account to its own data. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security — in particular, round codes are short and anonymous by design, so anyone who has one can read that round.
11. Children
Bad Golf is not directed to children. You must be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority where you live) to use the Service, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
12. Your choices and rights
- Access and correction — you can view and edit your profile, handicap, clubs and rounds inside the app at any time.
- Deletion — see Section 9.
- Notifications — every push category can be turned off in the app's notification settings.
- Location — can be revoked at any time in your device's system settings.
- Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over your personal information, including the right to request access to it, correction of it, or deletion of it, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights. To make a request, email support@officialbadgolf.com from the address on your account.
13. Where your information is held
The Service is operated from the United States and your information is stored and processed there. If you use Bad Golf from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date at the top. Continued use of the Service after a change constitutes acceptance.
